The acorn icon is a reference to Tulsa’s native oak trees, a nod to Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative’s namesake, and a representation of investment and optimism for greater things to come. The typeface used in our logo is VTC DuBois, designed by Tre Seals and based on the lettering used by sociologist W.E.B. DuBois and his students for his data collection originally exhibited in 1900. Design by Schessa Garbutt in collaboration with Consciously, Inc.

About Us - Message From Our Executive Director Section

As leaders and organizations across the country grapple with how to strategically invest in local communities, having access to relevant data about wealth equity in the U.S. is essential. Unfortunately, that data is often hidden behind paywalls, scattered across numerous sources, incomplete, or outright missing. 

With the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative and in collaboration with leaders within the data ecosystem, the Black Wealth Data Center intends to build a network of leaders, organizations, and scholars who are empowered to raise the standard on the collection, quality, and accessibility of wealth equity data. 

By centralizing data from many sources and partnering with leading organizations across the country, we’re also committed to creating efficiency for the practitioners and policymakers leveraging data to make decisions that help families accumulate and transfer wealth to future generations.

The Black Wealth Data Center was launched and supported by <a href="https://www.bloomberg.org/founders-projects/the-greenwood-initiative/" target="_blank">Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative</a>. The Greenwood Initiative conceptualized the Black Wealth Data Center to help address the problem of insufficient and inaccessible data on the topic of wealth.
